Mikel/Williams Family Newsletter - June/July 2012 Edition
Good Afternoon Family and Friends!
I hope everyone has had a relatively easy week and will have a relaxing weekend. This is the first of hopefully, many newsletters that I hope to write over the course of the years to come. In this newsletter you will find the achievements of our fellow family members, as well as news for next year’s family reunion, birthday shout outs, and summer safety tips.
Love,
Breyanna
For some family members, June is a time of great celebration with school ending and graduations imminent. In our family, I’d like to congratulate three extraordinary members.

Recently, the family had a get-together for two very important members of the family – Reginald and Mary Mikel of Vidalia, Georgia. The event was a success and it was nice to see family members have a great time together. Also during this event, there were talks of a possible vacation/reunion for the summer of 2013. Now the details are still in the works, however what I would like to know is what month would be best for this to take place? Would the majority prefer: June or July?
Summer 2013 Mikel/Williams Vacation
- What: A Cruise
- Where: The Bahamas
- Depart: Still in the works but would most likely be Florida
- Possibility that we can depart from South Carolina
- Length: Four days long
- Cruise Line: Carnival
*IMPORTANT: Now the things that still need to be worked out are:
- Room Assignments
- Specific ship we’re going on
- Date
- Individual prices
As a continuation of this vacation idea, you can pay all year long. The cruise HAS to be paid off TWO MONTHS PRIOR to the date that we set sell. Also, you will have to pay an initial deposit of $600 at the beginning. Once you pay that amount, you can pay as you go. It would be really nice if we could all do something as a family and there’s a possibility that we can get a group discount as well. The cost for a cruise includes everything from the moment you step on the ship. That includes: food, shows, entertainment and activities, daycare, room service, drinks (with the exception of alcohol and soda), pool, Jacuzzi, etc.
There is something to do for all ages with different things to do for different age groups.
- Children under the age of 2 also have babysitters/daycare on board
- Camp Carnival: kids are fed and hang out with children their own age. Also get to do different activities (age groups: 2 to 5, 6 to 8, 9 to 11)
- Circle “C”: dance parties, video games, and movies (ages: 12 to 14)
- Club O2: pool parties, video games, going to teen clubs (ages: 15 to 17)
The reason we decided to do a cruise is because it is an amazing experience. As soon as you walk onto the ship, you are set and won’t have to do anything (aside from figuring out what should you eat first). Also compared to a normal vacation to a city, resort, or amusement park – it’s cheaper and more enjoyable. For a normal vacation you would have to pay for: three meals a day per person, gas, entertainment, souvenirs, hotel/motel, and airfare. Also, on a regular vacation you have to search for restaurants. For example, for a family of four it was roughly $1,700 with everything included.
TIPS:
- Go with at least two other people (it’s cheaper)
- You will have to pay for the casino and specialty drink
- Bring a passport or original birth certificate
- Look for discounts
- Carnival has a discount for people 55 and up as well as active/retired military
- Come happy and smiling!!!

Summertime Tips: Beat the Heat
Be aware of the heat. Pay attention to it and modify your activities appropriately.
Pay attention to your hydration status, and be sure to drink plenty of fluids.
Try to stay in relatively cool areas, even when outside. Many public places such as libraries, shopping malls and movie theatres are air conditioned.
Avoid hot enclosed places, such as cars. Never leave children unattended in a car parked in the sun.
Use a fan, if available.
Stay on the lowest floor of your building.
Eat well-balanced, light and regular meals.
Wear loose-fitting, lightweight and light-colored clothing.
Cover windows that receive a significant amount of sun with drapes or shades to help keep your house cool.
Weather stripping and proper insulation will keep cool air inside your home.
Cool beverages are good for cooling down the body, while alcoholic drinks can impair the body's ability to regulate its temperature.
